Because politics is only a symptom, we're the problem. You could replace all the elites and pass whatever laws you want. NOTHING will prevent the system from becoming corrupt again, unless the people physically resist. The current spoiled masses who only care about free stuff and endless consumption, cannot be saved. They need to be culled and only then can the system heal.

The problem with voting is everyone can do it. You're right that the popular outcome isn't always the best outcome. If you want to increase that correlation, you have to reduce the voting population to those whose interests align with the country's (pay taxes, are drafted, aren't parasites, etc.)

As is, voting is 100% useless, fraud aside.

Then you claim that if the universe isn't goal-less, it must somehow mean everything in it has a conscience (panpsychism). Embarrassing indeed.

I'd expect better from someone who watches TFM but then again, do you watch his stuff? TFM's beliefs are opposite to yours on any of these issues (gays/religion/animals/sadism/etc.)

@UncleIroh So it's either "Panpsychism" or the complete absence of intelligence? A christian that never heard about the concept of God? A universe existing with a purpose doesn't mean everything in it is intelligent. I'd expand on it, but it seems you're more interested in reassuring yourself.

I have remained quite consistent actually, I think the confusion stems from you putting people in categories that don't fit reality.
First you said you used to occupy the same circle I did in the Venn diagram. Well, that turned out to be false, since you're having a hard time just understanding my beliefs.

@UncleIroh It's not that the Universe is goal-less, it's just that the Universe's goals transcend the individual and even though they exist, our insignificance gives us a relative amount of freedom to live as we please.
When I criticize a religion like Christianity, I'm criticizing the institution, not the individuals' faith. I'm not saying the people are wrong for having beliefs, I'm saying the religious institution took ownership of their beliefs and used them to control the masses.

@UncleIroh Unless all your values and beliefs come from Religion (which they most likely don't, since you say you used to occupy a different circle), then I think you're overestimating the gap.
If I was a hardcore Atheist who denied any possibility of a higher power and you were a monk who grew up in a monastery, then I might agree, but that isn't the case.

@UncleIroh You don't need a religion to add moral agency or purpose. Animals have those things as well. Many share morals like protecting the young or avoiding cannibalism. Morals first came from our instincts. Religion did not invent them.

I described Christianity as it was used by its leaders. Why do you think confession was a thing? Religions are manmade and used to control people. Faith, on the other hand, is personal and true. The alternative to Religion isn't Atheism, it's individualism.

@UncleIroh TFM talks about it all the time, we're the ones who give ourselves a purpose. What is religion if not a story told by men to give themselves a purpose and ease their existential pain?
And I'm not saying life itself has no purpose, it obviously does. However we, as individuals, are too small to have a purpose at a universal scale. As a species we might have a little more purpose, but even then, humans are unlikely to be the pinnacle and center point of all life in the universe.

@UncleIroh Does this however mean we should just surrender to it all and become perverts as well? Obviously not, we have agency as individuals. Recognizing that death, disease and perversion are part of nature, doesn't mean we have to give up. Even though the universe doesn't see them as "wrong", we should still strive to be better, for our own individual sake.
