Peoples and their religion come with a telos and sometimes an eschaton that has to be reckoned with if you are to take nuclear geopolitics seriously.

The Ukraine war has a massive blood-libel grudge backstory involving Khazars and Orthodox Christianity going back centuries.

It's no coincidence that Victoria Nuland has ancestral ties to Ukraine and bears a deep commitment to hatred towards native Russians.

Those non-material claims are in essence father to the material actions we see played out in current theaters of war.

Israel is the perfect example. Their batshit crazy actions are only made clear when viewed through their metaphysical/ontological claims to their Divine right to genocide.

The nearly 1 million settlers in the West Bank even call themselves Judaea, and they wield significant political influence.

I'm on board with most of his geopolitical descriptions, i.e. that this is in some fundamental sense a war of American empire vs BRICS, a resource war in other words, but in my opinion his atheism also makes him blind to an entire class of analysis based in metaphysics, ethics and ontology.

Ha, I've not used Eclipse for a long minute.

For me, IDE's center around java/c#/python/ts/js. There have been others along the way, including c++ in the distant past. And as mentioned by DD, bash, powershell and sql can be done in mostly any text editor.

Not on the apple train either, I ditched that a decade ago. I have an iMac for the kids, but I introduced them to computers by getting them a raspberry pi. They loved it, took to it immediately

Linux has been my daily driver for years, debian and fedora mostly via QubesOS. The only time I ever use Windows is on work hardware, and even then I live in WSL wherever possible.

Also most people use a fraction of a complex IDE, and since most of the upgrades are AI related there's no point getting sucked into riding the licensing choo-choo train.

I gave VSCode a decent try but never got on with it. Electron-based apps are mostly dogshit.

I've not tried KATE but as a long-time sublime-text user I'm good with that.

I'm also done keeping up with the JetBrains choo-choo licensing train.

Genuinely great IDE's with a ton of thought put into them, but holy crap, their licensing is dogshit.

My solution is to never upgrade. The version associated with your license is perpetual so just keep using that.
