the claim is those small units will deter aggression because if they're attacked it will force a serious response by the US military (the logic being if there is no response, it will have domestic political consequences), but that's obviously not the case. the response is an *option* the pentagon wants to keep on the table in perpetuity

If someone is wondering WHY this is retarded, ask the people who had to live in a building with large glazing surfaces facing West.
That's literally the worst way to design a living space conceivable. You come home from work and your entire building is overheated. Houseplants will often die because of heat damage OR because of insufficient light because you have to keep the blinds closed so your house doesn't turn into the palace at Arrakeen if you catch my drift.
