@Furgar #2 is partially correct in that the bank never "gives you" the money. The funds are transferred to the seller of the property for which you have acquired a mortgage. They don't pass on "an IOU or bad debt" (there is no definition of bad debt mentioned here) to you to someone else any more than when you pay via cheque for an electric bill. You don't repay the loan with "REAL money" any more than they pay the former owner of the property.

@Furgar That is incorrect. When you deposit cash into a bank, you are parting with a money substitute, and that claim is then classed as a deposit subject to cheque on the bank's books. While they loan funds out to entities, to say that banks "gamble on international markets" is disingenuous because you wouldn't say that you loaning a friend $20 is "gambling on the local market", especially considering the bank has more legal recourse to take you to court if you don't pay them than you do.

Beyond the fact that the plot of the Horus Heresy series requires a certain ending to facilitate the context for Warhammer 40K, I don't understand why it was so difficult to see the demons as merely xenos of the Warp. Was there not one person who counseled this idea instead of merely saying "Demons don't exist!" Again we have a problem with definition which would be solved if people just asked "What do you mean by ____?" In a world of psychers and the Warp, the Imperial Truth is valid.
