The region of Israel was called Syria-Palestine for centuries

The original Israelites were also called Syrian Palestinians

The confusion lies in that the people who call themselves Palestinians would better be described as Israelites

But Ashkenazi & Sephardic Jews who are primarily caucasian called themselves Israelites when that is not their primary ancestry

So if the people who called themselves Palestinians called themselves Israelites they would be mistaken for Ashkenazis
