@Pain66 These portraits clearly are not from the year of 1776. At least not most of them, as Thomas Jefferson and John Marshall would be looking pretty rough if they were 20 and 33 and looked like that.
But still, I am not surprised that they were young men when the revolution happened, as they would need to be at the peak fighting age to make it through the war (regardless if they directly fought or not).
It does show that men were much different then versus now.
@37712 @Pain66 Well the problem is when they fought the weapon use back them were very infective to kill several men at once except for canon but to preparate those requiere expecific condition. Now if you try to fight a super power 5 men can kill 1 million of men easily with today arsenal so is not worth it to waste a life like that.
@ButtWorldsMan I don't pull the lever if they're strangers. Not my problem.
If people I know and like are on the tracks, I pull the lever to save them, regardless of how many strangers I sacrifice. Sucks to be them.
If different people are tied to different tracks, I save those who I care about more.
I would push the fat guy onto the track just because.
@Stahesh I would also argue that men aren’t really the ones who are the gatekeepers of relationships anymore, simply because of the family court system. I would agree with you if we were talking prior to second wave feminism, but if you look at no fault divorce, child custody laws, alimony and child support laws women hold all the cards to relationships too. Not to mention they end relationships and marriage more often than men. If a relationship/marriage lasts it’s because the woman sees value.
You can’t blame the men for broken families because women are the gate keepers of sex and reproduction, and also in the family courts women use the children as leverage knowing that the less a man sees the kid the more resources they’ll be able to extract. It’s all about money that’s the reason women initiate 80% of divorces. Since the 1970s I believe, marriage rates have dropped roughly between 50-60%.
